Transforming…
Tuesday October 8, 2002 I walked into my first AA meeting, raised my hand and with a veil of false pride proclaimed “my name and I am an alcoholic”! I sat and listened as the people in attendance around me spoke about their situation. I was sober at that moment, but that soon changed – as soon as the meeting ended.
A couple of weeks later, after attending a few more meetings, listening to people discuss their experiences with being alcoholic and coming to realize that I needed more help I reached out to another person and ask them to be my “sponsor”. They humbly declined and introduced me to Ben, the person that would become my sponsor.
Ben was tough, but gentle, cruel but fair and had several years of sobriety under his belt. We began working together and he was attempting to help keep me sober, all the while telling me that it would God that would keep me sober and pull me out of this nightmare that was my life at the time. Three months later, a great many battles between the two of us and number of “1st day chips” (7 in total) I finally “came to” for the last time on Sunday December 8, 2002. This was the day I was formally introduced to God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. My life has never been the same, nor will it ever be again. This first step in transforming my life was important, however, it is far from the entire picture. Looking back to see where I was only shows me how much further I need to go.

12 Therefore, since we have such hope, we use great boldness of speech—
13 unlike Moses, who put a veil over his face so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the end of what was passing away.
14 But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ.
15 But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart.
16 Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.
17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
